Understanding Player Learning Styles

At JCS Future Builders, we believe effective coaching begins with understanding how players learn. Athletes absorb, retain, and apply information in different ways. Tailoring your instruction style to match their learning preferences enhances both development and communication.

🧠 Types of Learners & Coaching Strategies

πŸ‘οΈ Visual Learners

  • How they learn: By seeing and observing
  • What works:
    • Demonstrate skills clearly
    • Use diagrams, visual cues, or Veo footage
    • Show highlight videos or game film

β€œIf they can see it, they can believe it.”

πŸ‘‚ Auditory Learners

  • How they learn: By hearing and speaking
  • What works:
    • Give clear spoken instructions
    • Explain the β€œwhy” behind drills or tactics
    • Encourage questions and verbal feedback

β€œThey need to hear it to understand it.”

βœ‹ Kinesthetic Learners

  • How they learn: Through movement and doing
  • What works:
    • Let them try the drill, even if messy
    • Encourage hands-on correction
    • Use walkthroughs, not lectures

β€œThey learn best by doing, not watching.”

Coaching Tip:
Use all three methods when possible. It increases retention and reaches every athlete.
