MLS NEXT Youth Soccer: The 2025 Elite Pathway for Serious Players

MLS NEXT youth soccer launched in 2020 after replacing the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (DA). It’s now the official youth system for Major League Soccer and serves as a direct bridge between youth athletes and the pro game.

Unlike club leagues that are open to anyone, MLS NEXT is invitation-only. Only top academies—both MLS-affiliated and non-MLS—can join. Players are selected based on performance, physical and mental attributes, and long-term potential.

The league is nationwide with regional divisions, playoff formats, and showcase events attended by top scouts from college, MLS, and U.S. Soccer.
