Required for all student-athlete activities at JCS Future Builders

At JCS Future Builders, the safety of our athletes comes first. We follow NFHS and U.S. Soccer guidance requiring that all coaches and staff are trained and prepared to respond to signs of heat-related illness.

Early warning signs include:

  • Headache, dizziness, nausea
  • Excessive sweating or dry/hot skin
  • Confusion, irritability, disorientation

⚠️ Action Steps: If a Student Shows Heat Illness Symptoms

3. Cool First, Transport Second

If heat stroke is suspected:

  • Remove excess clothing
  • Begin cooling immediately:
    • Immerse in cold water tub OR
    • Apply cold wet towels to neck, armpits, and groin
    • Use fans, ice bags, or cold water dousing

❗ Never delay cooling while waiting for EMS.

4. Monitor

  • Check vital signs every 5 minutes until EMS arrives.
  • Keep the athlete lying flat with feet elevated if conscious.
